Q2 2024: a visual guide to ASA rulings

In Q2 2024, the ASA published fewer rulings than in Q1 2024 (59 rulings this quarter, 73 rulings last quarter, and 107 rulings the quarter before that), though the average number of days between publication of the advert and the date of the decision has decreased (167 days this quarter, compared with 239 last quarter).

The total number of complaints this quarter has returned to the levels seen previously (399 complaints, compared with 698 in the last quarter, and 377 in the quarter before that). Consumers still account for the most common type of complainant, though 12% of complainants this quarter fall under the 'other' category which includes industry bodies / professionals.

In Q2 2024, there has been a notable increase in rulings about television adverts, though the internet and social media continue to be the most common media. The topics most frequently seen this quarter related to "Claims, endorsements and testimonials", "Health conditions", "Medicines, remedies and therapies", and "Gambling".
