Wim is a seasoned trial attorney with more than two decades experience representing clients in court. He heads our firm’s litigation department. Wim’s practice is centered on high-stakes, international patent and trade secret litigation, especially in the Life Sciences and SEP/FRAND space. Wim represents international pharma and (bio)tech companies before the Unified Patent Court and regularly coordinates international patent assertion campaigns and defense strategies in Europe, Africa and Asia. 

Clients describe Wim as highly skilled, commercially minded, and a stand-out partner for complex tech litigation in Europe.

Wim holds a professorship in International Patent Litigation at the Católica Global School of Law in Lisbon, and has authored several books and articles on patent enforcement and the UPC.

Company obtains first cyber injunction under the protection of anonymity

We acted for a UK listed company on the theft of data and subsequent ransom of the company. We obtained an injunction against the hackers (PML v Persons Unknown) for the client, which was the first-time judgment had been obtained for a listed company against hackers in which anonymity was granted to the company in relation to the interim injunction and then on a permanent basis. The team co-ordinated the entire incident response, including instructing forensic IT and working heavily with UK cybercrime police.
