Carsten Bartholl

Carsten is Head of our International Energy & Infrastructure Group.

Based on his experience from over 100 national and international M&A transactions, Carsten is one of the leading experts in this area, particularly, for projects in the area of renewable energies and for investments in technologies to avoid and reduce CO2 emissions.

His practice also includes providing ongoing advise and developing the respective investment projects in an innovative way, thereby always keeping his client's interests in mind. Carsten also focuses on advising clients in the areas of entertainment and sports, in which he has provided legal support with respect to M&A projects for many years. He is held in high esteem for his determined yet experienced hands-on approach to advising his clients - regardless of whether they come from the energy industry or the entertainment sector.

CEE Group on the acquisition of the 154 MWp solar park project Döllen	Comprehensive legal advice to the asset manager CEE Group, specialised in renewable energies, on the acquisition of the 154 MWp solar park project Döllen as well as legal advice on complex construction agreements, various issues concerning the permitting and the zoning plan procedures as well as in connection with the sale of the electricity to be generated.
Berenberg Bank on the financing of the Hungarian solar park Szügy	Comprehensive legal advice to German private bank Berenberg regarding the financing and the review of the borrower legal due diligence in connection with the development of the Hungarian solar park "Szügy" (65 MWp) of the international EPC & solar park developer Greencells Group, for which the Berenberg Green Energy Junior Debt Fund III provides junior debt financing for the construction and commissioning phase.
Covestro on the conclusion of a power purchase agreement for solar power with EnBW	Comprehensive legal advice to materials manufacturer Covestro on all legal issues in connection with the conclusion of a long-term corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) with EnBW for the supply of solar power from 2022 over a period of 15 years.

Acquisition of the first German “onshore wind+storage”-project and respective PPA	Taylor Wessing advised CEE Group on a special renewable energy transaction. CEE Group acquired the only "onshore wind+storage" project in Germany to date from juwi including a PPA contract with MVV Trading GmbH. juwi was awarded the contract for this innovative project in the first nationwide innovation tender by the German Federal Network Agency in September 2020. The electricity is reimbursed with a fixed market bonus as well as with a so-called Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) that juwi developed jointly with MVV Trading GmbH. Hamburg-based CEE Group has acquired project and PPA.
Acquisition of a 90MWp solar portfolio in France	A renewable energy asset manager on its acquisition of two ground-mounted solar PV power plants in southern France. Both solar farms benefit from long-term feed-in tariffs. The total generation capacity of the plants adds up to 22 megawatt peak (MWp). Our advisory services relate to seven additional solar PV power plants. Total installed capacity adds up to 90 MWp.
Mezzanine financing of a market/PPA based solar PV portfolio (45MW) in the UK	Cross-border (Taylor Wessing Germany & UK) advisory services for a financial investor regarding mezzanine financing including a full scope due diligence for a 45MW UK solar photovoltaic portfolio (including construction, permitting, land uses, grid connection, remuneration/PPA etc.), and preparation of transaction documents (financing and security package).
