Thinking differently

As we head into Autumn, we've been busy visiting bars and restaurants, watching James Bond and actually working from a real office whilst milking our #1 ranking in Legal 500 for the hospitality sector (for which we thank everyone who said nice things) – but nothing makes us more pleased than seeing the hospitality industry is continuing to recover globally and travel restrictions being removed. Numbers may not be back to where they were pre-pandemic but the industry is definitely heading in the right direction. However, there are definitely still major challenges beyond COVID. In the UK there is an industry wide shortage of employees. Job vacancies have risen by over 50,000 in the UK since before the pandemic and there are now a huge 134,000 UK roles up for grabs in hospitality. This has meant that hotels and restaurants are having to operate at reduced capacity as there are not enough staff to cover the usual hours of operation and the increased occupancy. Unfortunately, at the same time there are major food service supply chain issues and rapidly rising costs. Views on the causes are disputed but there is a consensus that none appear to have quick solutions. The TW team has already started its Christmas shopping…
