Healthcare & Life Sciences: Taylor Wessing advises Protembis GmbH on Series B financing round

The Aachen-based start-up Protembis GmbH ("Protembis"), developer of the "ProtEmbo" filter system for catheter-guided aortic valve implantations, raises a total of around 30 million euros in new capital in a series B financing round. The company received comprehensive legal advice from Taylor Wessing under the leadership of Dr Niclas von Woedtke.

Protembis is developing the "ProtEmbo Cerebral Protection System", or "ProtEmbo" for short, which protects the brain from embolisms during transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). This system filters the particles released into the aorta during the procedure and thus prevents possible damage to the cerebral vessels. The filter system is inserted via the left radial artery so that the instruments required for the replacement, which are normally inserted via the femoral artery, can be used without interference.
Investors in the now completed Series B financing round include existing investors as well as new backers such as TechVision Fonds from Aachen, the Swedish growth investor Segulah Medical Acceleration and XGEN Venture from Italy.
The newly raised capital will be used, among other things, to finance the PROTEMBO pivotal trial (NCT05873816), which was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at the end of last year.
