Counsel Tuğçe Yalçın heads newly established CEE Turkish Desk

Türkiye has been considered as a significant trading partner for many countries around the world, not least due to its economy, which ranks 19th in the world. It was an economic success story even during the pandemic for Türkiye, with a real GDP growth of 13%. In a report published in 2022, the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies attests Türkiye a geopolitically and geo-economically important role as well as great economic potential and growth with the right economic policy, despite the challenges since the beginning of the pandemic. The EU is considered one of the country's most important trading partners and benefits greatly from these predicted developments.

Reasons enough for the international law firm Taylor Wessing - as one of only a few law firms in Austria - to establish a CEE Turkish Desk which offers comprehensive legal advice both to Turkish companies and investors wishing to enter the CEE markets, and to companies based in Europe wishing to position themselves or invest in Türkiye.

Dual-qualified lawyer heads CEE Turkish Desk

The newly established CEE Turkish Desk is headed by Tuğçe Yalçın who recently joined Taylor Wessing's Vienna office. Tuğçe advises her clients in her native languages German, English and Turkish. As a dual-qualified lawyer (Attorney at Law in Austria and Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales), Tuğçe is a Counsel in the Corporate/M&A practice group and has 10 years of experience in cross-border M&A, Private Equity (PE), Joint Venture (JV), Warranty & Indemnity (W&I) and financial transactions and global corporate restructurings including the regulatory issues such as foreign trade, investment and export control. She also focuses on transport & logistics projects, often with a focus on the CEE region.

Tuğçe is looking forward to her new role at Taylor Wessing after having worked the last few years in a global law firm in London and having completed her Ph.D. at the Oxford University/London: "Economically, the CEE region offers enormous potential for Turkish companies and vice versa. Our mission and strength is to provide these companies with first-class lawyers who are not only experts in their field of law, but also know the market very well."

In addition to Austria, also at Taylor Wessing in the Czech Republic, the development of the "Turkish business" has already begun. It is locally headed by senior associate Kristýna Koç, registered attorney at the Czech Bar Association and president of the Czech-Turkish Friendship Society.

For CEE Managing Partner Raimund Cancola, it is clear: "Türkiye must be part of the business strategy of any globally active law firm. With Tuğçe and Kristýna, we have two lawyers in the team who could not be better suited to support our clients - whether inbound or outbound - in the best possible way. More members of the CEE Turkish Desk will follow shortly."
